Grassi Lakes Hike (2.2km One Way) Easy

Please check with the current status of the trail as many rehabilitation projects are planned or underway in the area.

This one is a must do in Canmore if you are in the area. I think everyone should do this hike at least once, but be warned you will never be alone along the trail. The latest time we did this hike was on a snowy November day. I cannot recommend doing it at this time more, I believe that we experienced the best possible conditions for the trail as shown in the video.

There are two ways to get to the lakes. From the main trail there is a shorter, more aggressive offshoot trail that you can take. In the summer I do it as a loop. Although in the winter the offshoot trail is closed for safety reasons.

The trail itself is through the trees and not amazing. The good thing about this hike is that the trail is not very long so you get through the boring trees to the wonderful lakes very quickly. When you get to the top there are two lakes connected by a small creek. The lakes are both stunning and always still as glass whenever I have been there. In the summer you will also find climbers on the mountain wall next to the lakes.

Again I highly recommend people doing this hike at least once in their life. Although if you are like me and try to avoid the crowds I highly recommend going on a shoulder season or in the winter as shown in the video.
