Laughing Falls Hike (4.67m one way) Easy

This one was a gooder. I think this might be my new favourite hike. The hike starts at the Takakaw Falls parking lot in Yoho National Park. This hike is part of a bigger trail system so you can either extend or shorten the hike if you want. I think the reason I enjoyed the hike was all the different stops along the way.

You start at the incredible Takakaw falls and quickly cross a river and head down a wide path. The hike is generally flat or gently sloped. Sarah noted that lots of the trail was flanked by wild strawberries. I really liked these types of hikes with lots of moss covered ground and rocks. I think it is because it is different to most of the hikes we do. After a short hike through the woods there will be an intersection in the trail. We went both ways off the main trail and I recommend doing the same.

If you head right coming from Takakaw falls you will go down to angel staircase falls. These falls are across the river and high up on the mountain. They were nice but quite far away. I really enjoyed the other branch off the main trail, aka going left. This will bring you to Point Lace Falls. I really liked these waterfalls. Sarah went up to the top via a path, while I stayed at the bottom to take a good photo.

Further down the trail there is another side trail down to a lake. We did this on the way back but it is worth a visit either way. The lake is about four hundred meters from the main trail and takes you to a little point at Duchesnay Lake. When we were there the lake was quite high and there were some trees in the water.

You will know you are close when you pop out to a bridge. This is the entrance to the Laughing Falls Campground. We followed the river to a spot where we could see the falls but also could still talk. I went closer after we ate and took a photo. The waterfalls were very impressive and the area was very nice to explore around. There was lots of space around the falls to get a nice spot or setup a nice composition.

Overall I would say this was one of my favourite hikes in recent memory. It was an easy hike with many things to look at. Also there is an ability to extend the hike into a multi day trip by following the same trail system. The trail meandered through many different environments: rocky sections along the river, mixedwood forest, and a thick carpet of moss under coniferous trees. I think my favourite part of the hike was point lace falls but it was all quite good and I highly recommend doing the trail if you are in the area.
